"A little bit of background"
The Dudley Cup at Warwick Farm May 1965 making me 5 years old and my first experience with Australian Stock Horses, Thoroughbreds and Polo, photo with my father Douglas McKenzie and 3 of Sinclair Hills ponies "Powder"," Narda" and "Puff Puff".
My father introduced me to some great horsemen of that era but being so young my opportunities were limited to Bankstown Pony Club where my father was Chief Instructor for 16 years and were 110 mounted riders were normal. Between 10 and 12 years old my father would take me all over the state showing my ponies and winning champion boy or girl rider 12 years and under and that is where I saw my first campdrafts and the now legendary champion camp draft stallions of the 1960's.
On leaving school my first job was strapper and track work rider for David Campbell one of the kindest gentlemen in the horse industry, a genuine human being and a talented horseman and artist and who also a very dear family friend.
In 1978 I trained and showed an arabian stallion "Santarabia Ronava". every week-end off to the shows up and down the east coast, including every Sydney Royal and National for 10 years, also doing promotional work for Calton Breweries as "Santarabia Ronava" better known as "Chookie" was a beer guzzler, Calton United Breweries sponsored us to make appearances at major events.
My love for the Australian Stock Horse was still always there and any opportunity I had, I would watch the Thoroughbred and Stock Horse classes and the Campdrafting, then a friend told me about some thoroughbred foals that had been bred at the University of Sydney and being sold off as weanlings. There standing under a tree on his own I spotted this little black colt, the asking price was $300.00 SOLD.
I named him "King of Cavaliero" and he won races as a 2,3,4 and 5 year old, but at 3 years old I had him classified Australian Stock Horse, the trainer was having a fit as "King of Cavaliero" was in full work and hadn't had a stock saddle on him since he was 16 months old being broken-in.
Well, It was any ones guess how he was going to perform under saddle for the classifiers at Dural. I had to explain my situation as my stallion had won at Rosehill the week before with Malcom Johnson aboard and I didn't know how he would handle a workout. The classifiers just said "have a go"
Trotting a circle to the left and a canter to the right everything felt good so the pressure was on... 2 haunch turns, sliding stops, a roll back and a figure of 8 with flying changes at full speed score: 10/10. 10/10. 9/10.
The following week "King of Cavaliero" was the first Australian Stock Horse to win at Royal Randwick.
On moving to Cessnock in the Hunter Valley "King of Cavaliero" was still in racing, my passion for Australian Stock Horses and the Thoroughbreds was still so strong. I trained a mare "Nadine" and entered my first campdraft at Cessnock Show. what a buzz.
At the same time I was applying for my trainers licence and my first mare was "Lady Rutland" she started favourite.
From the time of "King of Cavaliero" in 1985 I was also raising my son Ben McKenzie and I saw that he had the same passion in his heart as I have in mine. Schooled at St. Gregorys Campbelltown and 2 years at Tocal he is based at Broke in the Hunter Valley and has set up his property for a number of horse activities as well as training working dogs. I am so proud of him, he is also the youngest person in Australia to win an open sheepdog trial and has beautiful hands on a horse.
In 1999 I met and fell in love with a wonderful man that would tell me stories about his wool classing years and his love for the bush and some of the tough stockhorses and thoroughbreds he rode when he was at Casino whilst bringing wild cattle out of the mountains.
So here is our connection, after 40 years in the printing business and retirement on the agenda, Bill wanted to become a farmer, a passion he has had his whole life. Meanwhile, I completed certificate 3 and certificate 4 Agriculture at Richmond Tafe and when I finished Bill purchased a run down property in the Central West of New South Wales.
From this...
To this...Whilst building, fencing, working in 43 degrees heat trying to get this farm up and running in one of the worst droughts in history we started our breeding programmes. White Suffolk Sheep, Angus Cattle, Australian Stock Horses and Rare and Unique Coloured Thoroughbreds

There are so many memories and stories to tell as everyone has them and these have been just a few relating to my experiences in the horse industry.
I would like to dedicate this web site to my wonderful husband Bill Bright, without him this would never have been possible, then 3 special people that have contributed to my passion and knowledge of horses and that made where I am today possible in one way or another.
David Campbell.
A talented horseman and artist that gave me a great opportunity to learn the finer points of the racing industry and to whom I have great respect.
Bob Mobberley.
A gifted horseman with any breed whether it be handling foals, breaking-in, educating, western, cutting, english etc. All my life I have been able to call on Bob for help and he would always be there for me.
And last but not least...
My beautiful son Ben McKenzie, a talented, dedicated and gifted horseman to which I am honoured to be his mother.
